Mumbai: Seven bikers allegedly involved in performing racing stunts a week ago were arrested on Sunday. The bikers had escaped from cops on night patrol last Sunday. The seven bikers shot a video of the stunts and the footage went viral on social media.
After the arrest, one of the bikers’ confessions was posted by Mumbai police which said: ‘No one should race or do stunt as it is an act of risking the life of self and others.I have suffered minor injuries while trying to escape the police chase.’
The police team led by DCP (Zone IX) Raj Tilak Roshan nabbed the seven after they went through the viral video and with the help of technical assistance and details from regional transport office helped get details of the bikers and seized at least six bikes near Bandra Worli Sea Link and Bandra Reclamation. Last Sunday, the bikers evaded capture by speeding through opposite lanes and leaping over dividers when they were chased by the police patrol cars at midnight.
Teams from Bandra and Khar police stations collaborated to track down the bikers and their bikes, said senior inspector of Bandra police station, Sanjay Marathe.
The video showed the seven bikers, all Dharavi residents, racing, doing wheelies, and performing stunts to win a bet. On noticing police cars, they started speeding through traffic, risking their life, and sped off from the other side, said the police.
