857 Crore Budget Announced For Varsity | Mumbai News – Times of India | IIT EXPERT



Mumbai: A budget outlay of Rs 857 crore was passed by Mumbai University’s senate on Saturday, in the absence of elected members from graduates’ constituency.
The budget, which projected an annual deficit of Rs 121 crore, emphasises on initiatives that are in line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The university has set aside an allocation of Rs 65 crore for initiatives focussing on strengthening research and innovation, quality enhancement, alumni connect, inclusivity and university-industry linkages.
Around Rs 30 crore has been set aside for the university’s master plan to become a world-class university.
These include, carbon neutral green campus initiatives, infrastructure upgradation, enhancement in academic working space, making all their campuses disabled friendly and upgradation of sport facilities to make it Olympic standard, among others.
Another Rs 15 crore has been allocated towards improving the quality of academics such as initiating best teacher awards under various categories, academic audit portals, corpus to attract eminent faculty members, faculty linkage programmes, etc. For students, a girls’ hostel and phase II of an international hostel, scholarships are planned.
