BMC invites tenders for Madh-Versova & Khar Subway Connectivity projects | Mumbai News – Times of India | IIT EXPERT

MUMBAI: The BMC has floated a tender inviting contractors for the design and construction of a bridge between Madh and Versova. It was earlier this year on January 17, that the civic bridges department had received Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) clearances for construction of this connector. The estimated cost of this project is pegged at Rs 1800 crores.
Apart from it, it has also invited tenders for appointing contractors for the design and construction of an elevated road for establishing east-west connectivity over Khar subway in the west and Bandra terminus in Bandra east. The estimate contract cost for this project is Rs. 1300 crores. The time period for construction in case of both the works is approximately three years each. To be specific in case of the Madh-Versova bridge the contract period is 36 months and Khar subway to Bandra connector 42 months both of which include monsoon months in them.
The proposed bridge between Madh Island–Versova will allow direct connectivity between these two places. At present, there is no road connectivity available here and people have to take the ferry. The civic body has planned a 600 metres cable stayed bridge with clear obligatory span of 300 metres over Versova creek.
In case of the Khar subway to Bandra connector Trivan Karnani, lawyer and spokesperson of the social media X handle @MNCDFBombay, a citizens welfare forum said that the proposed road needs to allow an exit towards the Western Express Highway. “Only then will it help to reduce the traffic at the subway. The encroachments on the east side of the subway has currently made the traffic situation very chaotic,” he said.
The pre bo=id meetings for both the projects would be held on March 13 while the last date for the tender is March 20.
Apart from the Madh-Versova bridge the BMC has this year also received the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) clearances for construction of two other projects along the western suburbs. One among these is the construction of a bridge at Marve road in Malad the permission of which was received on January 5 and the proposed construction of a vehicular bridge behind Bhagat Singh Nagar across the Goregaon creek –the permission of which was received on January 5.
Tenders for construction of the above two are yet to be invited.
