Builder in Navi Mumbai loses Rs 60 lakh to cyber fraudster | Mumbai News – Times of India | IIT EXPERT

MUMBAI: A builder from Navi Mumbai fell victim to a cyber fraudster who impersonated him and managed to dupe his office of Rs 60.6 lakh, according to the police.
The incident came to light when the builder filed a complaint, following which a case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
The builder’s office received a phone call on March 6, where the caller pretended to be the builder himself.The fraudster then obtained the accountant‘s phone number and sent a message on WhatsApp.
Posing as the builder, the fraudster provided the accountant with bank details and instructed him to transfer the amount. Without verifying the instructions with the builder, the accountant transferred the money.
The cyber police are currently investigating the case, but no arrests have been made so far.
