Cong, Sena UBT spar over Mum North-West seat | Mumbai News – Times of India | IIT EXPERT

Mumbai: A spat broke out between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress after Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday announced that Amol Kirtikar would be his party’s candidate from Mumbai North-West Lok Sabha constituency. In a dig at Sena (UBT), former Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam, who is vying for the seat, on Sunday said announcing a candidate even when seat-sharing talks are on between Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners is either a violation of alliance dharma or being done to humiliate Congress.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Nirupam had lost the Mumbai North-West seat to Amol’s father Gajanan Kirtikar, who is now with chief minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
In a post on X, Nirupam said despite two dozen meetings of MVA, final decision on seat-sharing has not been taken yet and Mumbai North-West seat is among the eight to nine seats which are pending. He alleged that Amol is a “khichdi scam accused” who “has taken bribe in cheque from the khichdi supplier” and ED is probing the case. Nirupam questioned whether Congress and Sena (UBT) workers would support such a candidate.
Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad, in a post on X, too said that MVA’s seat-sharing discussions were still in the final stage and no decision on the candidates has been taken yet.
