Fire breaks out Barave Solid Waste Management Project plant, damages machinery | Mumbai News – Times of India | IIT EXPERT

KALYAN: A major fire broke out at Barave Solid Waste Management Project plant in Kalyan run by of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation on Sunday. The fire have also damaged machinary at plant and due to same KDMC has planned to shift dry garbage at another plant situated at Umbarde till machinary of Barave plant did not gets repaired.
The Kalyan fire brigade officials said that fire reported at 4.55 am on Sunday after a sudden fire broke out in the dry waste stored at the plant.
Workers working on night shifts at the place tried to douse fire but when saw fire spread in major portion of plant they informed to Aadharwadi fire station who sent immediately six fire tenders and multiple water tankers from different fire stations to control fire.
Looking at major fire, KDMC’s Municiapl Commissioner Indurani Jakhar visited the site and gave necessary instructions to bring the fire under control.
Atul Patil, Deputy Municiapl Commissioner of Sanitation Department in KDMC said, “In fire 1500 metric tone segregated dry garbage collected to sent into different manufacturing units to make glasses, biogas, pawer blocks and other things completely gutted in fire”.
Patil further said, “In fire the machinery in the plant has also been damaged. Due to which the we now have decided to send the waste coming here to the plant located in Umbarde for treatment until the Barawe plant is gets repaired.
