Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Aamshya Padvi joins Shinde Sena | Mumbai News – Times of India | IIT EXPERT

MUMBAI: In a major setback for the Shiv Sena (UBT), its Nandurbar Member of Legislative Council Aamshya Padavi joined the CM Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Sunday. With Padvi’s exit and three Sena (UBT) MLC’s retiring in July, the Sena could lose its Leader of the Opposition (LoP) post in the Legislative Council.
Aamshya Padvi is from the tribal region of Nandurbar and key tribal face for Sena (UBT).Aamshya Padavi was defeated in the last two assembly elections in 2014 and 2019 by the Congress’s KC Padvi. However, Aamshya Padvi contributed a lot to the growth of Shiv Sena in Nandurbar district which led to his nomination to the Legislative Council.
Padvi joined the Shinde Sena at Nandanvan bungalow, one of CM Shinde’s official residences. He is said to have left the Sena (UBT) since he was interested in fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Nandurbar but the seat was going to the Congress in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
Currently the Sena’s (UBT) Ambadas Danve is the LoP in the Legislative Council. Initially when Shinde split the Sena with 40 MLAs, none of the Sena’s 13 MLCs were with him. However later, MLCs Neelam Gorhe, Viplove Bajoria and Manisha Kayande jumped ship and joined the Shinde Sena. Now the Sena (UBT) only has 8 MLCs.
With Padvi’s departure and the retirement of three MLCs, the Sena (UBT) will be reduced to only 7 MLCs. The Congress currently holds 8 MLCs, and if they assert their claim to the Leader of Opposition’s (LoP) post, the Sena (UBT) will have to forfeit its LoP position. Vijay Waddettiwar of the Congress already serves as the LoP in the Legislative Assembly. Additionally, in July, two members of the Congress are set to retire.
“Aamshya Padvi is an old hand in Nandurbar politics. He’s been active since the 1990s. He was in the local body in Akkalkuwa. He’s a known tribal face and joined the Sena in 2014. He was the Sena’s district president of the Sena too. He lost two assembly polls but was nominated as an MLC in 2022. His exit just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls will be a setback for the Sena (UBT) in Nandurbar district,” said a political observer.
