Mumbai: An Esplanade court on Sunday sent the 35 Somali pirates captured by Indian Navy in police custody till April 4.
The pirates, captured during an anti-piracy operation in the Arabian Sea last week, are accused of attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, criminal intimidation among other charges. They had allegedly hijacked the Bulgarian merchant vessel, MV Ruen, with 17 crew members on Dec 14 last year.They were allegedly demanding a ransom of $60 million. tnn
